Alvernia students will gain experiential learning opportunities from six local executives during the 2019-20 academic year through the expanded and revamped Executive-in-Residence Program.
The local executives will conduct classroom lectures, hold interactive lunch and learn sessions and expose students to on-site opportunities to showcase practical application of job requirements and skill sets.
“The expansion of our Executive-in-Residence Program will lead to increased engagement between Alvernia students and faculty with leaders in our greater community,” said Alvernia President John R. Loyack. “We are ecstatic for the immense generosity of these industry leaders to provide life-changing experiential learning experiences for our students.”
The dynamic program, now in its fifth year, allows students to gain valuable insight into real-world experiences directly from regional industry executives. Students also learn about the specific skills that leaders are looking for in college graduates, various leadership styles and real-life professional scenarios. Previously the program consisted of one business executive per year.
The executives include John Adams, Berks County district attorney and president of the Pennsylvania District Attorney’s Institute; Paul Cohn, chief client experience officer and team leader relationship manager with Clermont Wealth Strategies; Tracy Davidson, morning news anchor for NBC10 in Philadelphia; Kenda Creasy Dean, published author and co-founder and lead permissionary of Ministry Incubators; Steve Gerhard, superintendent of Governor Mifflin School District and Brittany Sweeney, news reporter for PBS39 News Tonight.
“We are excited to take the prior success of our Executive-in-Residence Program to new heights,” said Alvernia Director of O'Pake Institute for Ethics, Leadership and Public Service Rudy Ruth. “Students with interests in business, communications, criminal justice, education and the humanities will benefit from the mentoring opportunities with our experts.”
Past executives to partner with Alvernia include Chris Pruitt, CEO of East Penn Manufacturing; Andrea Funk, former CEO of Cambridge-Lee; Scott Gruber, CEO of Tompkins Financial; and Carl Anderson, general partner of Cannondale Partners LLP.
