Experiential and Service Learning
Community service is embedded in Alvernia University's Franciscan values and remains an important part of our educational mission today. The Communication and Digital Media Department incorporates service into specific classes offered through experiential learning to not only give back, but to have hands on experience in their field. The department also ensures that the students get experiential learning experiences outside of these service learning classes.
Donate Life - Public Relations Class
Dr. Radosh's Public Relations class collaborated with the Donate Life organization to create materials to encourage people to sign up to be an organ donor.
Reading Film Festival
Each year, our students and faculty are involved with the Reading Film Festival. At the 2023 Festival, Alvernia alum Kurt Manderbach won in the category of best documentary for his senior project: A Beautiful Gift. Milvia Cruz and Aliyah Daniels won the TikTok competition (with more than 100 entries) for most impactful message against violence, and Daniel Galindo came in second place in the TikTok Challenge for his entry on opioid addiction.
